Quality Control Supervisor/Team Lead
Position
Summary
The
QC Supervisor is responsible for leading and overseeing all Quality Control
laboratory activities supporting both the bakery and flavour operations. This
role provides direct leadership, technical guidance, and operational oversight
to the QC team to ensure testing, product release, and quality monitoring
activities are performed accurately, efficiently, and in full compliance with
food safety, regulatory, and customer requirements.
The
QC Supervisor ensures the QC laboratory operates as a critical support function
to production while maintaining the highest standards of analytical integrity,
documentation accuracy, and operational efficiency. The role leads quality
investigations, manages the hold and reblend programs, supports continuous
improvement initiatives, and ensures laboratory operations remain organized,
audit-ready, and aligned with Embassy’s food safety and quality standards.
This
position also maintains hands-on laboratory competency and actively performs
analytical testing when required to support production demands and ensure
uninterrupted workflow.
Key
Responsibilities
QC
Team Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise
and coordinate daily activities of the QC Bakery and QC Flavour
laboratories.
- Provide
leadership, coaching, and technical support to the Sr. QC Technologist and
QC Technologists.
- Assign
daily testing priorities and ensure adequate laboratory coverage across
shifts.
- Ensure
QC staff maintain testing accuracy, documentation integrity, and
compliance with laboratory procedures.
- Provide
training, mentoring, and performance feedback to support employee
development.
- Support
recruitment, onboarding, and training of new QC team members.
- Step
in to provide laboratory coverage during planned or unplanned staff
absences.
- Reinforce
adherence to GMP, food safety, laboratory, and company procedures.
- Provide
real-time quality support to production teams during manufacturing
activities.
- Collaborate
closely with operations teams to reinforce quality expectations and drive
accountability.
Continuous
Improvement & Laboratory Management
- Lead
continuous improvement initiatives within the QC laboratory to enhance
efficiency, accuracy, and workflow.
- Support
development, review, and maintenance of QC-related SOPs and work
instructions.
- Ensure
laboratory areas remain organized, clean, and audit-ready at all times.
- Manage
laboratory inventory, including ordering, tracking, and maintaining
critical supplies and reagents.
- Support
Lean and operational excellence initiatives within the Quality department.
- Ensure
all QC activities protect the food safety, authenticity, legality, and
quality of Embassy products.
Analytical
Testing & Quality Control
- Oversee
analytical testing of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished
products.
- Ensure
all required testing is completed accurately and documented within defined
timelines.
- Maintain
laboratory standards for analytical accuracy, calibration, and method
reliability.
- Review
laboratory data and verify test results prior to product release.
- Manage
and coordinate the external laboratory testing program when required.
- Support
laboratory testing activities to ensure uninterrupted production flow and
timely product release.
- Ensure
failed or out-of-specification results are immediately investigated and
corrective actions implemented.
- Maintain
the same level of laboratory competency and qualification as QC
Technologists.
Hold,
Reblend & Quality Investigation Programs
- Oversee
and administer the facility Hold and Reblend Program.
- Ensure
product holds are implemented immediately both physically and within
system controls.
- Review
and approve hold investigations and root cause analysis.
- Coordinate
reblend trials with R&D and Operations when required.
- Ensure
held inventory is accurately tracked and regularly reviewed.
- Maintain
organization, control, and compliance of the hold area.
Qualifications
- College
diploma or university degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Microbiology,
or a related discipline
- Minimum
5 years of quality control experience in food manufacturing
- Minimum
2 years of leadership or supervisory experience
- Strong
analytical and laboratory testing skills
- Proven
ability to lead investigations and solve technical problems
- Experience
working within GFSI-certified environments (BRCGS preferred)
- Strong
documentation, reporting, and computer skills
- Ability
to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced production environment
- Flexibility to support operational needs when required
Environmental
Conditions
- Potential
exposure to laboratory chemicals, loud noise, dust, or temperature
variations.
- Physical
requirements may include standing, walking, climbing, stooping, or typing.
- Occasional
lifting of up to 10 lbs may be required.
- This is an on-site position.
This position is for an existing vacancy with a range of $29.00 - $32.00 per hour.
